Blue Hour In Big Sky Country
Summer + Oluf’s Family Session to Remember
There’s something about Montana light in the summer — the way the sun lingers just a little longer, stretching golden fingers across the hills, turning everything soft and warm. It’s not just beautiful; it’s felt. This session with Summer, Oluf, Madeline, and baby Oluf reminded me why I love what I do — and why these moments matter.
I first met Summer through our mom group, and from the very beginning, I knew she was one of those rare, deeply kind souls — warm, grounded, and full of light. When her baby shower came around, I wanted to gift her something meaningful. She hadn’t had updated family photos in a long time, and I knew how much these memories would mean to her — especially in this new chapter of their lives.
We met up during golden hour, the kind of evening where the sky feels endless and the light wraps around everything like a hug. Watching Summer and Oluf with their kids — Madeline twirling in the grass, and baby Oluf nestled in their arms — was a reminder of how quickly time moves and how precious it is to slow it down, even for a moment.
During the session, I asked how they were adjusting to life with a newborn. Without hesitation, Oluf said, “She’s absolutely rocked postpartum. I couldn’t imagine a better partner.” And Summer, in that gentle, glowing way she has, smiled and said how supported she’s felt — how grateful they are to be in this moment, freezing time with these photos.
It wasn’t about perfection. It was about realness. Madeline’s giggles. The way Oluf looked at Summer. That beautiful in-between space of chaos and calm that defines early parenthood. There’s a frame I keep coming back to — a silhouette of the four of them against the fading light, just holding each other. It’s simple. And it says everything.
Sessions like this are why I love photographing families. Not just to “get the shot,” but to celebrate the love, resilience, and beauty that lives in everyday moments — especially the ones that pass too quickly.
